Christina Hendricks and the Golden Globe Gaff

Losing important or expensive jewelry is every woman's worst nightmare. Not the 'Lindsay Lohan'  way of losing jewelry (e.g. conveniently forgetting to return the loaner in your purse) - but the good old fashioned 'I accidently flushed my engagement ring down the toilet' brand of losing.

Enter Mad Men maven, Christina Hendricks, who lived out the horror at the Golden Globes when she lost an $850,000 diamond Chopard loaner bangle during her walk down the red carpet. When the ravishing red head realized her blingy bangle was MIA, she frantically started asking,

“Have you seen a diamond bracelet? I’ve lost one that looks like this,” pointing to the one sparkly bracelet still fastened to her wrist, according to the New York Post.

At that point, Christina did what any reasonable woman would do. She high-tailed it outta there to retrace her steps. Thankfully an event worker recovered it and handed it back to the star.

A representative from Chopard confirmed she wore a total of 200 (only?!) carats of their diamonds for the show. In addition to the lost and found bracelet, the other one was a 49-carat emerald and Marquis-cut diamond bracelet, also set in platinum.

Wish I would have seen that during the red carpet coverage. Note to E! - we are paying attention!!

 

All's well that ends well in Christina's case. But not all of us are so lucky. The jewelry-loving peanut gallery in our champagne-filled Live Red Carpet Twitter chat last night all agreed that Jane Krakowski's Lorraine Schwartz earrings, Tina Fey's Lorraine Schwartz ensemble, Halle Berry's diamond bangles and Sofia Vergara's, well, everything were some of the best jewels of the night.

And the worst? According to the JIC ladies, Heidi Klum jumped the shark in an ensemble that was "all project and no runway". Classic.
 

While bigger wasn't better in the bauble department this year - it was de riguer for these bride of Frankenstien-inspired tresses. Yikes.

And Sandra Bullock's bangs deserve their own accessory category called: "unfortunate". Sorry, Sandy.

Angelina Jolie's Red Carpet Emeralds: Take Two

Angelina Jolie wore an emerald Versace gown on the 2011 Golden Globe red carpet tonight, with tiny emerald earrings to match. While this DOES take her out of her boring black/no jewelry funk, why do I feel like I've been in this movie before?

Oh yeah....

So for those who were keeping track of my double-diamond dare to Ms. Jolie (if she wore anything but black and basics I would chug a glass of bubbly) - consider me a loser. But another Angelina Jolie emerald statement somehow feels like cheating.  Just sayin'.

Kanye West's Diamond Watch Has A Familiar Face

Kanye West's real diamond teeth are going to be hard for him to top in the bling department, but (lucky for us) that doesn't mean the controversial rap artist won't give it a go.

The latest carat-heavy Kanye creation to make news is a custom-made diamond Tiret watch that took over 5 months to make. Why is this particular ticker so worthy of our Kanye?

Perhaps it's the 8 carats of yellow, black, brown and white diamonds that make it sparkle? Or maybe the dial of the watch, itself, which is made of gleaming gold-colored mother-of-pearl? Or the fact that hot hip-hop entrepreneur, Damon Dash's, company was in charge of the design?

No. The best part of West's latest jewelry jones is that the watch face IS his own face. Yes, jewelry hounds, the 8-carats of diamonds are arranged in the shape of his own glasses-clad countenance. 

And I was worried about his self esteem...

Apparently Kanye isn't the only artist with confidence issues. In a 'my watch face is blingier than your watch face' move, the mighty Usher commissed Dash to make a timepiece with a price tag of $250,000.

 

I don't even want to think what Lil' Wayne would come away with...

West's next venture is the highly anticipated (and aptly named) 'Watch the Throne,' a collaborative album with Jay-Z set to drop this week - or March 1st. 

Lindsay Lohan's Jewelry Line Lunch

What would my life be without a Lindsay Lohan jewelry post, right? After 90 days at Betty Ford, Li-lo is on the loose again, and the jewelry buzz is following her like a neglected puppy dog.

But let's all share a moment of silence, shall we, and send out our most positive thoughts that instead of 'misplacing' loaner jewels or 'borrowing' samples from her friends' launch parties, Lindsay's jewelry news will take a more legitimate turn for 2011. 

So far, so good.

Apparently, jeweler Pacal Mouawad (famed for partnering with Nicole Richie on her House of Harlow line, among other stars) lunched with Lohan where they reportedly 'discussed' a jewelry line of their own.

And what did she get for her trouble? How about a 10-carat diamond heart Rosette necklace worth $25,000 smackers? I'd stay off the sauce if I were you, sister.

"Lindsay is looking great, she has a positive attitude, and we are looking forward to an amazing 2011 spending a lot of time together," Mouawad told people.com.

Golden Globe Jewelry Fashion Forecast

The 2011 Golden Globe Awards are likely to give us jewelry-gawking fools the most star-studded red carpet yet - with heavy hitters like Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Michelle Williams and Julianne Moore (deep inhale) all nominated, not to mention TV beauties like Kyra Sedgwick and Lea Michele.

So. Before I launch into my jewelry fashion predictions, please consider this invitation to join me and the rest of the jewelry-loving blogosphere as we live Tweet the red carpet using the hashtag:

I'll be starting the fun (and popping the champagne) at 6pm EST (3pm PST,) but the witching hour is probably going to hit around 7pmish. Stay tuned - and weigh in!

OK. While making any kind of fashion prediction is usually just an exercise in being wrong - here are my thoughts for the Globes:

1. Bare Necked Ladies

While statement necklaces were the go-to jewelry staple of 2008 and 2009 the look started to wane in 2010 and (I think) will be hard to find in 2011 - even though they're my favorite jaw-dropper of a jewel on the carpet. Sigh.

2. Vintage Vixens

Vintage gems are always a favorite red carpet choice among A-listers and their stylists (Rachel Zoe, et al) - and with blackened metal trending big for Spring 2011, I'm expecting to see a lot of this category on Sunday night. Especially on stars like Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway.

3. Pink Is the New Purple

The 2010 Globes were all about purple gowns and gems - and this year? I'm going with pink. Pink dresses, pink gemstone jewelry, pink handbags. I might be way off here, but if color authority, Pantone, picked blushy Honeysuckle as their Spring 2011 color topper - I'm thinkin' the Hollywood set is going to follow suit. Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't have a monopoly on this color, people.

4. It's Not Easy Being Green

The last two years saw emeralds shine bright at the big awards shows (e.g. Angelina Jolie's 2009 Oscar earrings, Julianne Moore's Bvlgari beauties at last year's Globes). In 2011, though, the precious gemstone category is all about sapphires and rubies.

Kate Middleton getting Princess Diana's sapphire engagement ring hurtled the category to new heights this holiday, and ruby engagement rings are making big news on stars like Jessica Simpson, American Idol's Crystal Bowersox and Bachelorette/Soap Star/Skating With the Star, Rebecca Budgi. I've seen Nicole Kidman rock the red before. And Natalie Portman has the baby blues these days so....

5. Angelina Jolie Will Disappoint Me

I think you all know how I feel about Ms. Jolie's lack of imagination when it comes to her red carpet chocies lately. Was her emerald Oscar miracle a one-hit-wonder? I hope I'm wrong, but my guess is we'll be getting more black and more diamond basics. If not?  I'll chug an entire glass of champagne while Tweeting. Twist my arm.

So there you have it. Those five predictions along with a smattering of statement earrings and yellow gold are the jewelry styles I'm looking for on the 68th Annual Golden Globe red carpet this Sunday.
